About the Artist

My name is Zoe, I am a textile artist with a background in Fashion Design, Art Education, and Oil Painting. I received a Bachelors in Craft/Materials at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia in 2023 with a Minor in Art History. I love exploring the ideas of being a female artist and what power that holds as well as experimental combinations of color and pattern. My portfolio shows a diverse variety of accomplishments and recognition for my abilities and hard work.

As a female artist and weaver I feel it is necessary to face the realization that weaving has always been a primarily female craft throughout history. My goal is to use this stereotype to my advantage and bring attention to weavers and what we are capable of. Creating three-dimensional pieces from hand woven fabric made from hand-dyed yarns shows the patience one must have when dedicating themselves as a weaver. The viewer can quite literally see the hand of the maker, one yarn stacked amongst each other repeatedly to create fabric, which then can become the very essence of our immediate surroundings: our clothing to protect our bodies, our blankets to keep us warm, our furniture we lay on to rest. This is a beautiful craft that is far too underappreciated. I am proud to be a weaver!

I started oil painting when I was 9 years old. Since then, I have been perfecting my skills through commission work, classes at VCU and Santa Reparata International School of Art. I strive to create photo-realistic paintings and pay great attention to detail. I typically approach my fabric design techniques with painting techniques in mind, which creates a continuity throughout my work.
